Ukrainian hazelnuts are in no way inferior to foreign hazelnuts, Oleksiy Zelenko, candidate of agricultural sciences, and Genadiy Yudin, president of the Ukrainian Nut Association, are sure. Some Ukrainian varieties are suitable for industrial use, have good yield and fruit quality.
The best domestic varieties include:
- Masterpiece;
- Ukraine 50;
- Pie;
- Davydivskyi;
- Dolynsky;.
It should be noted that the Ukraine 50 hazelnut looks quite similar to its American counterpart, the Yamhil variety. The Davidivskyi variety is similar to the American high-yielding variety in terms of fruit formation.
The experts said that the Ukrainian Nut Association and the Institute of Horticulture created a working group with the participation of representatives of other scientific institutions and breeders, which together analyze and develop the Ukrainian varietal base, where all varieties of plants from different regions will be presented in comparison with foreign representatives. This organization signed a corresponding memorandum on cooperation on the basis of the Sofiivka National Dendrological Park, located in the city of Uman.
